Tilbury's SEI Industries to the rescue in Papua New Guinea mudslide
Tilbury's SEI Industries is ramping up production to help rescue efforts of workers at a liquefied natural gas project in a remote area of New Guinea who have been stranded by a massive mudslide.
Known for manufacturing the Bambi Bucket that is slung under helicopters and used to douse forest fires, SEI has its staff working around the clock to manufacture a lightweight, portable fuel container.
Called the Fuel-Easy, it will assist the 4,500 workers who have been isolated at the ExxonMobil LNG plant since Jan. 24 when a landslide buried a pair of villages and cut off road access to the mountainous area.
Estimates are it will take five weeks to re-establish the connection. In the meantime, living and reconstruction needs will require the portable fuel tanks to be flown to the site via helicopter.
As of Feb. 1, the plant's workers had roughly 10 days of fuel remaining.
