Ground broken on TFN residential project
A private groundbreaking ceremony took place on Tsawwassen First Nation land Thursday morning (May 24) to mark the beginning of the Tsawwassen Shores residential development.
Hosted by Aquilini Development and Construction Inc., the sod turning event kicked off the construction of two show homes and a sales centre, scheduled for completion in early September.
"This is one of the first projects post-treaty that is actually starting to develop," said Melissa Howey, marketing co-ordinator at Aquilini Development. "We wanted to mark the occasion."
Howey said homes will go up for sale to the public in late September or early October.
"People will then have an opportunity to choose their lot and choose the type of home, from the selection of homes that we will have, that they want to build on that particular lot," she said.
Howey said the first phase of development will include 52 single-family homes and different housing types will follow.
"This is part of a much larger development and just one component of Tsawwassen's economic development plan. So there will be many phases coming down the road," she said.
Approximately 800 homes will be built over the next few years, Howey said.
