The Delta Chamber of Commerce once again recognized business and community leaders in the community with its annual Hats Off to Excellence Awards Gala on Nov. 16.

The event, at the Delta Town and Country Inn, celebrated the finalists' achievements which have made Delta a better place to work, live and play, chamber vice chair Orv Nickel said in a media release.

“Leaders in farming, fishing, local business and the community founded the Delta Board of Trade in 1910 (now the Delta Chamber of Commerce). Today, small and medium sized businesses make up the core of Delta’s economy. Without them we could not live at the high standard we enjoy here in Delta. The Delta Chamber of Commerce is here to help those businesses of all shapes and sizes grow and prosper. When they prosper Delta prospers," Nickel said.

Terry Bremner, owner of Wellbrook Winery and Bremner Foods in Ladner, was named Citizen of the Year for his long-time involvement in the community, including organizing family-friendly events such as Summerfest, an annual farmers' market and classic car show that attracts about 4,000 people and raises funds for the Delta Hospital Auxiliary.

Other award recipients included:

Business of the Year: Augustine House Society (Tanya Snow)

Employee Extraordinaire: Maria Durham, Delta Town and Country Inn

Special Events and Tourism Award: The South Delta Jazz Festival (Stephen Robb)

Rising Star Award: Lydia Ryall, Cropthorne Farm

Volunteer Service Award: Matthew Rogers
