Beach clean-up

A Tsawwassen teen is hoping to make a difference in her community with a beach clean-up party next Friday (Aug. 12) that coincides with International Youth Day.

Pricilla Westlake has organized the event at Boundary  Bay Regional Park and invited the community, especially youth, to lend a hand. There will be free burgers, drinks and chips, as well as prizes.

The idea stems from Westlake attending the Get Outside Youth Leadership Summit last month at the North Vancouver Outdoor School in Squamish.

"One of the requirements to attend the camp was that everyone had to plan an outdoor community event at a regional or provincial park," Westlake wrote via email. "I chose to do a beach clean-up because it fit the criteria: we have a regional park; it  has a beach; it's an outdoor event; and I have invited the whole community."

The event runs from 12  to 2 p.m.
