Tsawwassen's Thrifty Foods pitches in to help Delta Hospital with organic orange fundraising sale
If an apple a day can keep the doctor away, an orange a day can help him or her stay and offer the best possible heath care at Delta Hospital.
That's the goal behind a new fundraising program at Thrifty Foods' Tsawwassen location to support the Delta Hospital Foundation.
Launched Monday (Feb. 20) the One Buck at a Time campaign will donate $1 to the foundation for every four-pound bag of Organic Buck Brand Oranges sold until March 13.
Each dollar raised supports important hospital initiatives, said Jackey Zellweger, the foundation's Events and Corporate Giving Coordinator who along with Tsawwassen store manager Grace MacInnes launched the fundraiser.
Thrifty Foods has been a community supporter of the Delta Hospital Foundation since 2001, and the One Buck at a Time campaign is also being aimed at 12 other hospital foundations in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island through sales in those communities.
"This is a very exciting fundraising event for us. And we are really grateful that Thrifty Foods and Buck Brand has chosen to support our foundation," said Zellweger, adding Thrifty Foods' ongoing support, in addition to other community groups, has helped provide Delta Hospital with a CT scanner, and surgical equipment. "The money raised will go to the hospital's Greatest Needs Fund. This is a special fund that allows us to purchase the most vital equipment for our medical staff in a timely manner."
Being able to react to immediate needs helps provide the best health care possible at Delta Hospital, she added.
