30 Under 30: Megan Dalke, 18
It's not everyday that a small-town girl gets a shot at the big leagues, but that's what happened to Megan Dalke.
The Tsawwassen teen had only graduated from South Delta Secondary a few months prior with, zero previous modelling experience, went to the Faces West modelling convention in Vancouver last fall.
A Vancouver Fashion Week producer offered her one of 20 open slots on the runway. She ended up performing 30 shows throughout Vancouver Fashion Week.
Things progressed from there and a month later Dalke jetted off to New York City to meet with industry bigwigs from Wilhelmina Models.
Dalke previously told the Leader she had planned to study business after high school, but she put those plans on hold for now.
"You have a window and this doesn't happen to very many people," Dalke says. "If I pursue modelling and I'm successful at it, then I can pay for myself to go to school, which would be even better."
She had expected to return to New York in January and had a trip booked in March for Paris Fashion Week.
"This is an amazing opportunity and a possible career, so I'm taking it very seriously and I'm going to work as hard as I possibly can."
