Large crowds out for Canada Day
Grey skies did not keep Deltans away from the nation's birthday festivities.
About 5,000 people came out to celebrate Canada Day Sunday evening at Chalmers Park in North Delta, where they enjoyed a family-friendly concert, barbeque, stilt walkers and fireworks.
Others proudly donned red and white for the daytime entertainment in Ladner and Tsawwassen. The Delta Museum and Archives Society hosted its yearly party on Delta Street in Ladner Village, as did the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club at Diefenbaker Park. In the afternoon, the Kirkland House Foundation invited the community to the historic house for a family picnic and games.
DPD Cst. Ciaran Feenan said the festivities ran smoothly in both North and South Delta.
"We didn't have any issues at all from any of the Canada Day celebrations, so it's great, that's how the day is supposed to be – it's supposed to be a celebration for everybody," he said.
