Ladner and Tsawwassen church choirs see the light

Ladner United Church Youth Group’s preparation for their Solas project is in full swing.

The project involves running a week-long program for primary school children on the Isles of Iona and Mull, Scotland, in July. And a fundraising concert called “Let It Shine!” is planned for Feb. 18 at the church.

The combined choirs of Ladner United Church and Tsawwassen United Church along with well-known Tsawwassen performer Tracy Neff, David Tuck and other outstanding musicians will present  an afternoon of music.

Through a friend in the Ladner United Church's congregation the Rev. Linda Pollock, minister of Church of Scotland congregations on Mull and Iona, invited the Ladner youth to help her revive ministry for children by creating an experience of Christian community.

Solas, a Gaelic word meaning “comfort, joy or light,” was chosen by the youth to express their aim of sharing and receiving the light of God revealed through Jesus in responding to Pollock's invitation.

Admission is by donation at the door. The concerts starts at 2 p.m. Seating tickets are available at the Ladner United Church office (4960 48th Ave.) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday.
