Tsawwassen artist seeking votes to win rainforest trip
Tsawwassen artist Laura Wasylyshen is hoping to catch a glimpse of the rare spirit bear in the wild.
But to do so, she needs votes.
The nature lover is currently in second place in the Great Bear's Got Talent online Facebook contest supported by Greenpeace and the Great Bear Lodge.
Applicants were challenged to create the most "artful, stirring and creative homage" to the Great Bear Rainforest in B.C.
In response, Wasylyshen submitted an original 48x36 inch acrylic painting along with a poem and song, all packaged into a video.
The contest winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the Great Bear Lodge in Klemtu, situated on the north-central coast of B.C.
The five-day ecotourism experience, valued at $6,500, includes return airfare from Vancouver, bear viewing, including a one day spirit bear excursion, cultural tour, optional kayaking, full accommodation and meals.
If she wins, Wasylyshen hopes to use the trip as her honeymoon next summer.
Online voting closes June 27 at which point a committee will review the five most-voted entries and select a winner.
Vote for Wasylyshen's submission here.
