Local flavour: 'Can-do' Delta trio

LF_LeslieAbramson-WEB.jpg

They call themselves the "L-Divas" and they are a "can-do" trio in Delta.

The "L" refers to the fact Leslie Abramson, Linda Ottho and Lornell Ridley all have first names that start with the same letter.

Another aspect that links them is the fact they are each president of local Rotary Clubs—Ottho in Ladner, Abramson in Tsawwassen, and Ridley in North Delta.

And with that shared sense and commitment to service comes the support for one of the community's most embraced charitable programs—Operation Red Nose.

The volunteer service provides a safe ride home for drivers, passengers and their vehicle during the holiday season.

"Operation Red Nose has been doing this wonderful service for 10 years in Delta," says Abramson. "Since the beginning Rotary has been involved, putting up signs, sharing their auction signs, and being a financial sponsor."

All three Rotary Clubs believe if you are going to drink be responsible, she adds.

"So they (Operation Red Nose) spend many many hours volunteering as drivers to make sure that Delta citizens get home safe and sound."

Throughout the month of December the Leader has focused its Local Flavour feature on ORN and its supporters who have shared a recipe for a non-alcoholic beverage.

In this edition, the "L-Divas" suggest a baby Bellini.

To arrange a ride with Operation Red Nose, call 604-943-0460. The service is available between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Clients must have a vehicle to use ORN. Donations are greatly appreciated, but not required. And all proceeds will help to buy equipment for the Delta Sport Development Centre.
