Crime beat: Delta police busy in Ladner

Tsawwassen:

April 1, 12:41 am, 52 Street & 6 Avenue: Three youths were observed smashing the glass in the bus stop. The complainants followed the subjects on foot and gave police updates on their location. Police responded and found the youths hiding behind a truck. Transit was advised, and assessed the damage at $400.  One of the subjects indicated he was responsible, and police are proceeding by way of Extra Judicial Measures through Delta Youth Counselor.

April 8, 7:20 am, 1700 Block 56 Street:  A vehicle was left in the park and ride overnight as the complainant had attended a function after work and was driven home by her husband. When she attempted to retrieve the vehicle the next day she found it had been stolen.

April 9, 10:30 pm, 1000 Block 54A Street: The sun-roof window in the victim’s vehicle was smashed causing $500 in damage.

April 10, 1:20 pm, 900 Block 53A Street: A man was observed in the rear yard of a vacant house. Police attended and found the storage area under the deck had been damage in an attempt to gain access. Possible target of theft.

Ladner:

April 1, 1:28 am, 5700 Block Ladner Trunk Road: A male assaulted his ex girlfriend at a local fast food restaurant. The victim was spat on and knocked to the ground striking her head. Police arrested the suspect who was transported to cells and later released with no contact conditions and a promise to appear in court at a future date.

April 1, 1:05 pm, 4800 Block Delta Street: A local store reported a female and two males entered the stored and asked to see several pieces of jewelry. While the clerk was distracted the suspects stole six pairs of diamond stud earrings valued at $3,032. Officers will examine surveillance video to try to identify the thieves.

April 2, 11:30 am, 4800 Block Delta Street: A local store reported that someone had stolen an employee’s wallet from behind the counter. The complainant cancelled her credit card but the suspects had already made $550 in purchases.

April 2, 10:05 pm, 5400 Block Ladner Trunk Road: A male triggered the security alarm upon exiting the liquor store and fled. Inventory check revealed a $40 bottle of Captain Morgan rum missing. Still under investigation.

April 3, 3:28 am, 4800 Block Delta Street: A taxi driver reported he picked up four customers in Vancouver and transported them to Delta. Upon arrival all four fled the vehicle without paying. Police identified four possible suspects. Still under investigation.

April 3, 4:50 am, 4500 Block 51 Street: A vehicle parked on the street had its rear window smashed out. Nothing taken from the vehicle. No witnesses or suspects.

April 4, 7:26 am, 7500 Block Hopcott Road: As the result of a labour dispute it was reported trucks were being prevented from entering a business facility.  Police monitored the situation and advised the union representatives not to interfere with the traffic flow. The demonstration continued but was peaceful.

April 4, 8:45 pm, 6800 Block Tilbury Road: The compound of a business was entered by cutting through the fence. Thieves stole approximately 200 feet of cable.

April 5, 2:28 pm, Alexander Road & River Road: The complainant reported that while he was driving his semi-tractor in the area someone had thrown a rock and smashed his passenger side window. Complainant felt the incident may be related to a labor dispute in the area.

April 7, 9:44 pm, 4811 53 Street: Someone opened a fraudulent cell phone account in the name of the complainant. The account with an outstanding balance of $540 has now been closed. Still under investigation.

April 7, 11:00 pm, 4900 Central Avenue: Sometime overnight someone had attempted to break into the locked outdoor storage shed of the senior’s residence. Entry was not gained but damage to the doors was estimated at $200.

April 9, 1:00 am, Linden Drive & Ladner Trunk Road: A group of young adults were walking and were approached by another group of young adults. One man in the second group began to accost the first group. He pushed and shoved one of the men from the first group, then produced a knife and stabbed the victim on the left side of his neck causing minor injuries. The victim was transported to hospital and released shortly after. Police investigation is continuing.

April 9, 1:27 pm, 5000 Block 55B Street: The victim’s vehicle was entered sometime overnight and a GPS and camera stolen.
