Cat adoption event on Saturday

The Delta Community Animal Shelter is overwhelmed with cats and every cage is full. This weekend, the shelter is hosting a Kitty Carnival in hopes of adopting out at least 30 cats in one day.

On Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. people who want a new feline friend can visit either the shelter (7450 80th St.) or Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall and choose from 65 cats and kittens.

All cats and kittens have a $75 adoption fee, which includes spay/neuter, initial vaccinations, worm and flea treatment, permanent identification and six weeks of free pet insurance. Feral cats are free to a good barn.

The event is sponsored by Jamieson's Pet Food Distributors, who are covering the additional cost of the adoption fee.

Unwanted cats and kittens saturate shelters across North America because not everyone spays and neuters their pets. The Delta shelter sees the result of this every year and in 2010 cared for over 450 cats.
