TransLink to boost 601 bus service

The start of the school year brings an increased demand for transit service and, in order to accommodate students, TransLink has announced changes for a number of routes in the Lower Mainland—including Delta.

As of Monday, Sept. 5 the 601 Bridgeport Station/South Delta bus will run every 20 minutes instead of every half hour between 7 and 9 p.m. to serve current demands and make transit more attractive for new riders.

Also starting on Monday, people working on Annacis Island will have more options during the afternoon and evening peak periods, as TransLink adds three more trips to the 104 Annacis Island/22nd Street Station route.

South of the Fraser, the 341 Guildford/Langley Centre bus will see a 50 per cent increase in capacity during the morning and afternoon peak periods, running every 20 minutes instead of every half hour from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays. This route connects three transit exchanges and, according to TransLink, there has been increasing demand for more service that starts and ends within the South of Fraser area.

The changes are all part of TransLink’s Service Optimization Initiative, which is re-allocating resources from under-performing  routes to routes and times of day that are under-served in order to provide more service within the same "envelope."
