Robinson verdict expected next week
The supreme court judge who presided over the trial of Benjamin "Monty" Robinson is expected to hand down her decision next Friday (March 23).
Robinson, an RCMP corporal, is charged with obstructing justice in relation to the October, 2008 collision at the intersection of Sixth Ave. and Gilchrist Dr. in Tsawwassen that killed 21-year-old Orion Hutchinson.
Robinson was off-duty when his Jeep collided with Hutchinson's motorcycle. Following the accident, Robinson gave his driver's licence to a bystander and left the scene to walk his two children home. Upon his return, he told police he had downed two shots of vodka at home to calm his nerves.
During Robinson's eight-day trial, which concluded Feb. 22, Justice Janice Dillon heard evidence presented by Crown prosecutor Kris Pechet and defense lawyer David Crossin.
Robinson is currently suspended from work with pay.
