Mountie leaves loaded gun on BC ferry docked at Tsawwassen
Delta Police have launched a criminal code investigation after an RCMP member's loaded gun was found left behind on a B.C. ferry docked in Tsawwassen.
A passenger found the standard-issue weapon March 21 in an unattended duffel bag in the cafeteria and turned it over to ferry authorities, who then contacted Delta Police.
"We were able to secure that weapon appropriately," said Delta Police spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan.
Feenan said Delta Police are carrying out a Criminal Code investigation, and any matters related to policy and procedural breeches will be handled by the RCMP.
"We've notified the RCMP of the investigation, we've notified the Office of the Police Complaints Commission as well, and it's ongoing," Feenan said.
Police have not named the Mountie who lost the gun, and could not yet speculate on possible charges.
