Group plans Ladner fundraiser and rally for Fraser delta
A grassroots citizens group is organizing a fundraiser and rally in response to the industrialization of farmland and wildlife habitat in the Fraser River delta.
According to the website Stopthepave.org, the group is planning a potluck fundraiser on Saturday, May 26 at 6 p.m. in the Mariner Co-op common room (4660 52A St.) in Ladner.
Proceeds from beer and wine donations will go to funding a campaign to stop port expansion.
The fundraiser event will be followed by a rally and march on Saturday, June 16 starting at 1 p.m. at Magee Park in Ladner.
"Driven by Gateway and the South Fraser Perimeter Road, the industrialization of farmland and wildlife habitat in the Fraser Delta has reached a tipping point," states Stopthepave.org. "Together with the provincial and federal governments, global shipping companies and land speculators have big plans for this region."
The website lists the proposed Deltaport Terminal 2, a Free Trade Zone, YVR expansion and possible inland terminals among its concerns.
