Ladner Storm wins BMO Team of the Week contest
Riding a late, surging wave of support, the Ladner Storm U10 girls soccer team netted the $125,000 first prize in BMO's Team of the Week contest that was announced live on CTV's Canada AM show early this morning (Sept. 5).
The result came from two weeks of online voting last month for 15 teams from across the country. The $125,000 will be used to upgrade a local sports field. In addition, the team gets $5,000 to donate to its charity of choice—BC Children's Hospital—and receive tickets to watch the Canadian Major League Soccer team of their choice.
The Storm started out in 13th place in the contest and steadily rose through the rankings, flirting with first place on the final day of voting on Aug. 27.
The players, their families and other supporters worked tirelessly to gather votes, appearing at the Ladner Village Market days, staffing a voting station outside the Ladner Save-On-Foods and Ladner liquor store.
