Serious motorcycle crash closes Massey Tunnel overnight
A motorcyclist is in serious but stable condition following a crash in the George Massey Tunnel around 11 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 16) evening.
The rider of a 2003 Suzuki dual sport motorcycle was seen weaving in and out of traffic northbound on Hwy 99 through the tunnel when the bike drifted and struck the wall.
The 45-year-old male rider was thrown from the motorcycle, sustaining serious injuries, according to a Deas Island RCMP statement.
An off duty firefighter and an off duty police officer were on scene and provided medical aid until emergency crews could arrive.
The rider suffered a compound fracture of his arm and his leg along with serious cuts to his face. He was taken to Vancouver General Hospital.
RCMP say speed was not a factor and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken with the police are urged to contact the Deas Island RCMP at 604-946-2184 and ask for Const. Winslow or Cpl. Somerville.
