UPDATE: Fugitive wanted on charges of sexual assault arrested in Australia
A former Tsawwassen resident wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for sexual assault on children was arrested in Sydney, Australia last Friday (Oct. 26).
Jamieson Richard Glendinning, also known as Rick, was charged in September 2010 with sexual assault, indecent assault, and gross indecency, alleging incidents involving multiple victims, both male and female, ranging in age from elementary to secondary school students that took place between 1969 and 1990.
The first of three of Glendinning's alleged victims went to police in December of 2009 and he was charged following an investigation. His arrest resulted in two other alleged victims coming forward afterward.
Delta Cst. Ciaran Feenan said Glendinning was remanded into an immigration centre and will be deported from Australia in a few weeks.
"So ourselves, along with the Crown Counsel, are making those necessary arrangements to have Mr. Glendinning returned to Vancouver, and once he's taken into custody he'll be brought before the courts," Feenan said.
The warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on June 11, 2012.
Glendinning, 63, used to live in Tsawwassen, and was involved with the Tsawwassen Amateur Baseball Association between 1985 and 1995. Police are concerned his affiliation with the athletic association during that time means he might have interacted inappropriately with many youth.
