Delta man fined $3,000 for failing to file tax returns
A Delta man has been fined $3,000 for failing to file tax returns.
Owen Carl Walstrom was sentenced in Surrey Provincial Court on Oct. 23 after he pleaded guilty to one count of failing to file a goods and services tax return. Walstrom was fined $3,000 for failing to file his 2007 GST return. He was given until Dec. 31, 2012, to pay the fine and the return is now filed.
When taxpayers are convicted of failing to file tax returns, in addition to any fines imposed by the courts, they must still file the returns and pay the full amount of taxes owing, plus interest owed, as well as any civil penalties that may be assessed by the Canada Revenue Agency.
