Delta man arrested after evening chase
A man has been arrested after leading police in three cities on a late evening chase.
At just after 10 p.m. Thursday, Surrey Mounties were told of a break and enter in Delta, where the vehicle of the home owner was stolen.
Delta advised area cities of the theft, and a Mountie on patrol spotted the stolen vehicle and stopped it at Scott Road, just past 103A Avenue.
As Mounties got out of their patrol cars, the Chevy van reversed, smashing one of the squad cars. The van then took off.
Police caught up with it at the Pattullo Bridge and broke pursuit as the van headed across the bridge.
It then headed into a residential area, where the driver put it into a garage and fled on foot.
The van was found by New Westminster Police, which called on the canine unit to track the man who fled.
The suspect was located, and taken into custody.
The driver is a 21-year-old resident of Delta, with an extensive criminal record. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for breaching his parole.
Police are considering several charges.
