Winter weather causes truck accident on Deltaport Way

semi_WEB.jpg

The slippery winter weather resulted in a flipover of a double loader dump truck at the Deltaport offramp from Highway 17 in Tsawwassen at around 8:30 a,m. Tuesday (Jan. 15).

The truck appears to have jackknifed and spilled off the road, causing massive backups of semi-trailers and other trucks waiting to drive down Deltaport Way.

There was no immediate word of injuries and the truck appears to have been empty when it overturned.

Traffic began moving again down Deltaport Way by 9:15 a.m. but caused heavy backups on Highway 17 toward Ladner Trunk Road.

Snow accumulation in South Delta overnight along with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark has caused dangerous driving conditions. The Corporation of Delta has a snow and ice advisory webpage updated with current road conditions here.

Story will be updated as new information arrives.
