Ice Hawks beat up on crosstown rival
Michael Olson-Eyre had two goals and an assist to lead the Junior B Delta Ice Hawks to a decisive 5-1 victory over their crosstown rivals, the North Delta Devils, Tuesday night at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
Olson-Eyre was named the game’s first star as the Ice Hawks stretched their unbeaten streak to start the 2013/14 Pacific Junior Hockey League season to five games.
The Ice Hawks wasted no time Tuesday night as they stormed to a 3-0 lead in the first period. The teams traded goals in the second period before Ice Hawk Evan Diamantpoulos scored a power play goal in the third to put the game out of reach for the Devils.
Evan Grannary and Alec Dawydiak also had goals for the Ice Hawks, while Spencer Schoen had two assists. Also picking up helpers for the Ice Hawks were Benjamin Blake, Brent Chreptyk, Karsten Seidel, and Grannary.
Grannary was named the game’s second star, while goalie Scott Lapp earned third-star honours after stopping 30 of 31 shots he faced.
The Ice Hawks’ penalty kill was a perfect six-for-six, while the team’s powerplay connected twice in eight opportunities.
With the win, the Ice Hawks’ record improves to four wins and one tie, giving them first place in the Tom Shaw Conference, as well as the entire PJHL.
The Ice Hawks will try to keep their unbeaten streak alive this Sunday as they take on the Grandview Steelers on the road in Burnaby, before returning home on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to host the North Vancouver Wolf Pack. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
