Laura Dixon back as SD37 chair
Delta's trustees have re-elected Laura Dixon as district school board 37 chair and elected Val Windsor as vice-chairperson at their inaugural meeting on Dec. 10.
In accepting her re-election, Dixon deferred attention from herself, thanking district staff for their work and dedication.
"Superintendent [Dianne] Turner continues to show leadership through effective relationships," she said. "By infusing the district with opportunities for building relationships such as collaboration time, co-ordinator of inquiry time, teacher mentorship and much more, Superintendent Turner has kept her focus on putting our Delta’s Bold Vision into action."
Dixon also thanked Deputy Superintendent Garnet Ayres and Assistant Superintendent Doug Sheppard, Director of Facilities and Planning Frank Geyer, Secretary Treasurer Joe Strain, and others, before addressing her fellow trustees.
"Delta Trustees have served on several provincial committees, going above and beyond their local roles to contribute to the work of supporting public education at the provincial level in areas of mental health, English Language Learning, trustee education, youth and gang issues, student wellness, and Aboriginal Student Learning and more."
Dixon was first elected to the school board in 2008, and acclaimed as chair last December after Dale Saip stepped down from his four year stint at the helm.
Former Delta Teachers' Association president Val Windsor was elected in 2011 with a vision toward adding support for special needs students, increasing provincial funding, and addressing declining enrolment.
