A familiar face is making a bid for a comeback on Delta Council.

North Delta's Jeannie Kanakos announced Wednesday (Oct. 5) she will be entering the race for one of the six seats up for grabs in the Nov. 19 civic vote.

“I would be honoured to serve the Delta residents again and to contribute to making our good community better," said Kanakos in a press release.

Kanakos served on Delta Council from 2006 to 2009. She chaired the Traffic and Safety Committee and the Cycling Committee.  She was also the Vice-Chair of the Community Planning and Advisory Committee with the late George Hawskworth.

“I am proud of the work George and I did together and was very blessed to be mentored by him,” she said.

Kanakos’s platform focuses on the importance of sustainability in Delta.

“I look forward to  Delta becoming a sustainable community and as your Municipal Councillor, I will consider the environmental, economic and social factors when making decisions for our community.”

Community Wellness is also on her list of priorities and supports the planned expansion of the North Delta Recreation Centre.

“While on council, there are several accomplishments I am very proud of: the Sungod Fitness Centre Expansion, the Winskill Seniors Wellness Park and the Delsom Turf field in North Delta."

Kanakos joins two other independent, incumbent candidates seeking public office in Delta—Coun. Bruce McDonald and school trustee Laura Dixon.

Candidates have until Oct. 14 to file nomination papers.
