Tsawwassen pair in field hockey final
Tsawwassen's Rob Short and Mark Pearson will join their Canadian men's field hockey teammates Saturday (Oct. 29) in defending their Pan Am Games title in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The two local products, who came up through the ranks of the Tsawwassen Falcons, club were part of the 3-2 semi final win Thursday over Cuba.
In Saturday's gold medal game the Canadian side will battle a familiar foe—Argentina. Canada beat Argentina in the Pan Am Games back in 2007 and the two countries are ranked closely in the world standings with Canada in 10th spot and Argentina in 11th.
The winner at the Pan Am Games gets an automatic berth at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England.
The semi final win over Cuba got going with a goal from Canada's Matt Guest who deflected the ball into Cuba's net in the first minute. And Vancouver's Scott Tupper followed that up shortly afterwards on a penalty corner.
Canada's Gabbar Singh scored Canda's third goal to wrap things up and set the stage for the championship game.
