Ice Hawks clipped in OT by Pilots

The Delta Ice Hawks failed to exact revenge on the visiting Abbotsford Pilots Tuesday night, as the home team lost 3-2 in overtime to the Harold Brittain conference-leaders.

The game was a rematch of the Dec. 14 affair that saw the Ice Hawks fall 8-1 to the Pilots. That game included more than 300 minutes in assessed penalties and misconducts.

The Ice Hawks were still without the services of Brent Chreptyk and Ryan Mana Tuesday night, who continue to serve suspensions for their part in the Dec. 14 melée.

While chippy at times, Tuesday's game was much tamer affair than its predecessor, with a mere 64 minutes of penalties between the two teams.

The Pilots opened up a two-goal lead, scoring in the first and second periods.

The Ice Hawks pressed hard to tie the game in the third period, however, outshooting the Pilots 16-7.

Tanner Gattinger got Delta on the board with a power play goal three minutes into the final frame. Aaron Merrick tied the game at the 15:39 mark with an even-strength goal.

While the Ice Hawks were able to force overtime, it was the Pilots who prevailed as Luke Venema scored the winner at 2:47.

Delta was 1-for-5 on the power play, and were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Ryan Procyshyn, Anthony Brito, and Ryan Cuthbert had assists.

The OT loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Ice Hawks, who will be back in action this Sunday on the road against the Grandview Steelers.

The Ice Hawks return home Tuesday, Jan. 15 to host the Mission City Outlaws at 7:30 p.m. at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
