Pacers bounced from Fraser Valley playoffs
Senior boys AAA
The Delta Pacers were bounced from the senior boys' AAA Fraser Valley Basketball Championships Monday night, losing 76-63 to the Gleneagle Talons of Coquitlam in the third round.
The Delta Pacers entered the tournament ranked No. 15 in the Fraser Valley, and opened the tournament on Wednesday with a 64-53 win over the No.-18-ranked North Surrey Spartans.
The Pacers faced the No. 2-ranked Walnut Grove Gators in the second round of the playoffs, losing 72-45 at Walnut Grove Secondary in Langley Friday night.
Monday's loss to the No. 10-ranked Talons eliminated the Pacers from the Fraser Valley playoffs and marks the end of their 2013 campaign.
The 2013 Pacers senior boys' team are Daniel Cheshire, Colton Bakken, Mackenzie Falk, Gabriel George, Andrew Jones, Adrian Blanco, Bowen Bakken, Evan Messenger, Sam Evanson, Cody Yang, Jamie Toor, Shawn Bajwa, Ryan Cowley, Keaton Boyd, Will Schwan, and Reece Griffing.
Senior boys A
The Southpointe Academy Titans' season came to an end on Wednesday as they were eliminated in the opening round of the Fraser Valley senior boys' A playoffs.
The No. 8-ranked Titans lost 64-42 to the No. 1-ranked B.C. Christian Academy.
The 2013 Titans are Ziyaan Harji, Satnam Sunner, Sumeet Grewal, Eddie Li, Allen He, Justin Dhah, Jay Lin, Alex Guo, Mantej Sekhon, Matt Purcell, Anmol Basra, Justin Bains, Balraj Singh, and Jaskirat Mann.
The junior boys' teams from South Delta and Delta secondary school both bowed out in the first round of their Fraser Valley playoff tournament as well.
The Sun Devils, ranked 28th going into the playoffs, lost 76-27 to the No. 5-ranked Mennonite Educational Institute Eagles of Abbotsford in the knock-out round last week. The No. 24-ranked Pacers were unable to pull off the upset as they were edged 62-52 by the No. 9-ranked Yale Lions.
Both the South Delta Sun Devils and Delta Pacers junior girls' basketball teams failed to advance to the provincial finals, as both teams were knocked out in the first elimination round of the Fraser Valley Championships.
The No. 18-ranked Sun Devils fell 34-27 to the No. 15-ranked Semiahmoo Totems in the opening round of the tournament last week. The No. 27-ranked Pacers lost 28-12 to the No. 6-ranked Dr. Charles Best Secondary Blue Devils of Coquitlam.
Grade 8 boys
The Delta Pacers Grade 8 boys' finished third in the Fraser Valley playoffs, making them eligible for a berth at provincials later this month.
The Pacers entered the tournament ranked second in the Fraser Valley, and made short work of AD Rundle Middle School at home on Tuesday, beating the No. 31-ranked Rams 49-25 in their opening game.
Delta edged Langley Christian on Thursday at home by a score of 54-30, before the tournament moved to Archbishop Carney Secondary in Port Coquitlam for the final rounds of the tournament.
The Pacers beat the No. 7-ranked Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 46-20 on Friday to advance to the tournament semifinals.
There the Pacers were dealt their first loss of the playoffs, as they fell 41-37 to the No. 3-ranked Tamanawis Wildcats.
The Pacers bounced back with a 62-50 win over Walnut Grove on Monday night to finish third at the tournament, and qualify for the Grade 8 Invitational Provincial Championships, held March 7 to 9 at Pitt Meadows Secondary School.
Grade 8 girls
The South Delta Sun Devils were upset in the first round of the Fraser Valley Grade 8 girls' championships, failing to advance to provincials next week in Pitt Meadows. The No. 11-ranked Sun Devils lost 22-21 to the No. 22-ranked North Surrey Spartans last week.
